Ontario Senior Property Tax Grant

The Ontario Senior Property Tax Grant (OSPTG) is a provincially-funded program that provides financial assistance to low- and moderate-income seniors who own their own homes in Ontario, Canada. The grant reduces the amount of property taxes that eligible seniors have to pay.


To be eligible for the OSPTG, you must meet the following criteria:

* Be 65 years of age or older as of January 1 of the year you are applying for the grant.
* Own and occupy your principal residence in Ontario.
* Have a total household income of $35,000 or less in the previous year.
* Be responsible for paying the property taxes on your home.

**Amount of the Grant**

The amount of the OSPTG is based on your household income and the assessed value of your home. The maximum grant amount for the 2023 taxation year is $500.

**How to Apply**

To apply for the OSPTG, you can either:

* Complete the online application on the Ontario government website.
* Call the Ontario Seniors’ Helpline at 1-888-933-1775.
* Visit your local municipal office.

**Deadline to Apply**

The deadline to apply for the OSPTG is June 30 of each year.

**Additional Information**

* The OSPTG is not taxable.
* The OSPTG is paid directly to your municipality.
* You can apply for the OSPTG even if you receive other property tax relief programs.
